Piracy doesn't help.I think that people in music production tend to be a little entitled about pricing sometimes because they don't get that the pro-sumer market is still expanding rapidly from where it used to be, for a long time this stuff was solely marketed to professionals and a lot of it still is. Nexus is something that remains for pros, and there are a lot more things like it. NI has almost cornered the pro-sumer soft synth market because of their yearly sales, marketing and price points, and I bet you ReFX knows that so they don't try and go after the same customers like you and me. Let's say I'm making a table for my house.
I've got a hammer and nails and a saw. Build the thing, it's fine, but not quite finished. I decide it would be better with a nice chamfered edge, but I don't personally own a miter saw (I think that what you'd use). I don't need to use it any time other than for this one table, so it makes no sense for me to go spend hundreds on something that I need for limited personal use, as opposed to a use case where it's a part of my income. That's more where in coming from, but it's a bit harder to borrow a real saw than a super saw.
